On Tuesday, November 24, the sun sets over Miami at 5:29 PM. One minute earlier, at 5:28 PM, the full moon rises at a compass bearing of about 61 degrees, east-northeast and out over the Atlantic. The city's free Full Moon Yoga on the Beach class starts at 5:30 PM that evening at Samson Oceanfront Park, 17425 Collins Avenue, a short walk south of the Acqualina towers.
Last month the same class started at 6:30 PM. In June it started at 8:00 PM. If you remember the class from summer, you would now arrive two and a half hours late. The start time moves because the class follows the evening sky, and the calendar for the rest of the season shows how closely it does.
The Schedule Tracks The Sky
The city's event page lists every session from summer through February. The summer classes started at 8:00 PM on June 29 and July 29, at 7:30 PM on August 28, and at 7:00 PM on September 26. The table below puts the remaining sessions next to Miami's sunset and moonrise times for the same evenings, from timeanddate.com.
| Session | Class time | Miami sunset | Miami moonrise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon., Oct. 26, 2026 | 6:30–7:30 PM | 6:43 PM | 6:58 PM |
| Tue., Nov. 24, 2026 | 5:30–6:30 PM | 5:29 PM | 5:28 PM |
| Wed., Dec. 23, 2026 | 5:30–6:30 PM | 5:35 PM | 5:14 PM |
| Fri., Jan. 22, 2027 | 6:00–7:00 PM | 5:56 PM | 6:22 PM |
| Sat., Feb. 20, 2027 | 6:00–7:00 PM | 6:17 PM | 6:14 PM |
In every row, the class starts within half an hour of sunset and within half an hour of moonrise. The city doesn't say how it picks the times, but they follow the sky closely. Each class falls in the hour when daylight is fading over Collins Avenue and the moon is coming up over the water.
November 1 Moves Everything An Hour Earlier
The biggest change in the table comes from the clocks. Daylight saving time ends at 2:00 AM on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when clocks go back to 1:00 AM, according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Miami's sunset goes from 6:43 PM on October 26 to 5:29 PM on November 24. Most of that jump is the clock change, and the rest is the shorter days of late fall.
That puts the November and December classes at 5:30 PM, the earliest start of the season and a time when many people are still finishing work. After the winter solstice, sunsets get later again, so the January and February classes start at 6:00 PM. If you skip November, the next session comes on December 23, the same week as most holiday travel and family visits. A class that starts before 6:00 PM is easier to fit around an evening at home than one that ends after dark.
Four Evenings, Four Different Moons
Because the class follows sunset, the moon is in a different position at the start of each session. The full moon also peaks at a different hour each month, so some classes fall closer to the actual full moon than others.
- November 24. The moon rises at 5:28 PM, two minutes before the 5:30 class begins, and the sun sets one minute later. The astronomical full moon came earlier that day, at 9:53 AM EST. The evening moon still looks full, and it comes up over the water just as the light goes.
- December 23. The moon is already up at 5:14 PM, before class starts, and the sun sets at 5:35 PM, five minutes into the session. The full moon peaks at 8:28 PM EST that same night, after class ends.
- January 22. The sun sets at 5:56 PM, just before the 6:00 class, and the moon doesn't rise until 6:22 PM. This is the one session where the moon appears during class instead of before it. The full moon peaked that morning, at 7:17 AM EST.
- February 20. Moonrise is at 6:14 PM, sunset at 6:17 PM, and the full moon peaks at 6:23 PM EST. Of all the sessions on the calendar, this one comes closest to the actual moment of the full moon.
From a beach that faces east, the moon comes up over the open ocean. On November 24 it rises in the east-northeast, at about 61 degrees.
Getting To Samson Without A Car Problem
From Estates South, Samson Oceanfront Park is a walk south along Collins Avenue. The park covers 2.1 acres and has a pavilion with picnic tables, a performance stage, an open lawn and a path down to the beach. The details that matter on class night:
- Cost and sign-up. The class is free and open to everyone. The city recommends registering online through the event page.
- What to bring. Bring your own towel or yoga mat.
- Parking for guests. The city offers free parking for the class at the municipal lot at NE 175 Terrace and at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 18070 Collins Avenue.
- Facilities. The park has restrooms, showers, a lifeguard station, sand volleyball courts and vending machines. The restrooms are open from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM, well after every session ends.
- Dogs stay home. City park rules prohibit pets in all parks except recognized service animals. They also prohibit glass containers, alcohol and amplified music.
Samson's posted hours are sunrise to sunset, and every class runs past sunset. The class is a city-run event listed by the Cultural & Community Services Department, which you can reach at 305.792.1706 with questions. Arriving early for the 5:30 PM November class means arriving in daylight, which is when the park is open for an unhurried walk before class.
If you are bringing children, check the playground's status first. New equipment was scheduled for installation from October 5 through October 19. As of October 19, the city's closures page still showed both that notice and a separate one saying the playground is partially closed for repairs until further notice.
The Morning Calendar On The Same Beach
The city also runs a morning event on this beach. Its monthly beach cleanup rotates among three starting points. Each one runs from 8:00 to 11:00 AM and needs no registration. According to the city's beach cleanup page, the city supplies gloves, garbage bags and water. The individual event notices ask volunteers to bring reusable gloves and say buckets will be provided.
| Date | Starting point |
|---|---|
| Sat., Nov. 14, 2026 | Ellen Wynne Beach Access |
| Sat., Dec. 12, 2026 | Newport Fishing Pier |
| Sat., Jan. 9, 2027 | Samson Oceanfront Park |
| Sat., Feb. 6, 2027 | Ellen Wynne Beach Access |
On January 9 the cleanup starts at Samson, two weeks before the January 22 yoga session there. Both are listed on the city calendar.
After the October 26 session, the next class is Tuesday, November 24, at 5:30 PM. That is an hour earlier than October's class, because the clocks change on November 1, and the full moon will be rising over the Atlantic as class begins.
From the higher floors of Acqualina, the same eastern horizon is visible every evening, without needing to bring a mat. To see which residences face that horizon, Acqualina Rentals invites you to request a private viewing or owner consultation with Adriana Vargas and the on-site team at 17895 Collins Avenue.
